The project addresses a major problem identified by the Australian government and major national science bodies, namely improvement of teacher capacity and student engagement and achievement in STEM. The research will advance our understanding of the complex and interrelated system of factors that influence teacher change especially as they apply to the promotion of student-centred learning in STEM areas. It will make an important contribution to the design of interventions that promote sustained changes in teacher practices that are important for the social and economic benefit for Australia, in line with the National STEM School Education Strategy.
